At Central UMC we truly believe that we are a church family. It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or how long you have been part of our church ... to us you are family! And, as a church family we have special happenings occurring throughout the year that we view as ministries but in reality they are opportunities for all of us to get together.
Every Shrove Tuesday (the day before Ash Wednesday), our Children and Youth Ministry team cooks up a Pancake Dinner for anyone who's hungry! The dinner is followed by our annual Central Talent Show that starts off with 'When the Saints Go Marching In' led by Pastor Dave's KAZOO BAND, which is always looking for new members. The talent show's talent has truly been entertaining through the years from joke tellers to singers to actors to tuba players and more. Young and old alike it is a night to mark down on your calendar for good food and fun.
Children from throughout the community hurry to our church for our Easter Egg Hunt that also gives us a chance to invite families to attend our Daily Vacation Bible School and Sunday School programs.
In April we hold our annual Pat Scott Golf Classic! Golfers and duffers have a great day of fun while raising monies for our church's ongoing expenses.
The Linwood- Northfield-Somers Point community know what the last two Saturdays in July are! They are our annual Central Chicken and Shrimp Barbecue! The food, fun, and fellowship are so good we need two Saturdays to enjoy. There is usually special music from our Praise Team plus one of the best meals around!
In October our church lawn turns orange as the PUMPKIN PATCH returns featuring pumpkins raised by the Navajo's in New Mexico that are THE BEST pumpkins you can find anywhere. The monies raised benefit our youth groups and we even have a Pumpkin Festival highlighted by a wide variety of pumpkin baked goods.
The beginning of the Advent Season has our church family gathering for a Pot-Luck Dinner, which is followed by a special program of the music of the Christmas season including our unique version of the '12 Days of Christmas.'
And, there is more ... two boutiques from our United Methodist Women, a delicious Roast Beef Dinner from our Igniting Men's Ministry team, special music programs, and fun surprises that can only happen when people enjoy being with each other.
We celebrate our special happenings' ministry because smiles are shared, friendships grown, and God's love celebrated! Watch the church calendar for what's up next!
