Throughout Central United Methodist Church’s 150 years literally thousands of couples have started their lives as man and wife in our church Sanctuary. They have come before God to express their vows and love for each other in a ceremony officiated by clergy while celebrated by friends and family. Some weddings are between two members of our church family, some involve one member of this church and the person they have determined will spend the rest of his or her life with that member, and some are between two individuals who know that their new life together needs to begin with and be centered on God.

As a United Methodist Church, we affirm the sanctity of the marriage covenant that is expressed in love, mutual support, personal commitment, and shared fidelity between a man and a woman. We believe that God’s blessing rests upon such marriage, whether or not there are children of the union. We reject social norms that assume different standards for women than for men in marriage. We support laws in civil society that define marriage as the union or one man and one woman.

Couples who are married at our church spend time in pre-marital counseling with one of our pastors. These are opportunities to explore issues that can impact married life while also providing guidance on insuring that God has a continued presence for the couple.

Our church has a wedding planner who can answer questions that many future brides and grooms have about their special day. She is present on the wedding day to insure that the day is truly a special and memorable one.

Weddings are held in our Sanctuary and also in the more intimate Joslin Chapel. The ceremony follows our United Methodist traditions but allows for the input of the couple so that this first day together as a new family is one that reflects who they are.
