BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA
TROOP LEADER – Scoutmaster Doug Stroz
(609) 926-1805

Central United Methodist Church began our relationship with the Boy Scouts of America when we agreed to support the charter of Troop 39 in 1937. Troop 39 has continued to thrive since that time and has always remained one of the ways that we as a church can provide young people with positive options for life!

Troop 39 is a member of the Atlantic District which is a part of The Jersey Shore Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Its 2009 membership consists of 28 Youth Scouts, four Adult Leaders and six Committee members.

The Troop meets year round, every T

uesday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 PM, in the basement of the Church.

In addition to frequent campouts and other Scouting related activities, the Troop attends a BSA accredited summer camp each year. Events include:

  •  The Native American Camporee
  •  Shore Mall Scout Show
  •  Scout Sunday at the CUMC, where Scouts annually participate in worship services
  •  Klondike Derby
  •  Order of the Arrow Ordeal
  •  Canoeing on Bargaintown Lake
  •  Annual Canoe Trip
  •  Annual Whitewater Rafting Trip
  •  Annual Bikeride to Dairy Queen

GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA
BROWNIE TROOP 12119 LEADER – Lori Terne
GIRL SCOUT TROOP 12155 LEADER – Rene Fabi

As our church family grows we continue to have more and more children who come through our doors each week. Scouting is a great outlet for parents and children alike. The growth of our church has led to the establishment of two Brownie troops serving the younger girls of our church family.

Our Brownie troops offer young girls the opportunity to develop new friends for the rest of their lives while they develop skills in various areas but especially in leadership. These young brownies are the future leaders of the world and their experiences in scouting here at Central United Methodist Church will give them a stepping stone to many years of Girl Scouting with the Girl Scouts of America.

Starting in September 2009, our troop will have bridged over from Brownies to Junior Girl Scouts. Our meetings this fall will be held on Friday evenings from 6:00 - 7:30pm. The girls in the troop come from Linwood, Northfield, and Egg Harbor Township.

Our girls enjoy participating in classroom activities, craft projects, sporting events, camping, community service events, and fun field trips!! All of this is done to help our girls develop their potential, relate well to others, develop good values for living, and become individuals who contribute to society.

The GSUSA Mission Statement is "Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
