Central United Methodist Church is blessed with a devoted staff who work hard to empower the church to do ministry effectively and efficiently, often behind the scenes where their contributions are not noticed yet the fruit of their labors are evidenced in the vital and inspiring ministries that our church shares in our growing region and then takes around the world.
Debra Smith is our church secretary. Her cheerful “Hello, Central United Methodist Church” and hospitality greet you not only on the telephone but also in the office. She is celebrating 10 years as a member of our staff and keeps our church office responsive to the needs of our people while caring for the administrative tasks of our ministry. She is always willing to answer your questions and facilitate your connections to the appropriate area of our ministry.
Carlyn Yard is our ‘Director of Music Development.’ Her energetic and creative spirit are easily seen in her devotion to God and her love for music. She leads and directs our Praise Team, Teen Praise Team, Praise Ensemble, Genesis Choir, Guitar class, and special musical presentations. She is always visioning for the future and developing new music ministries while inspiring people of all ages and interests with our current music program. Carlyn is an accomplished keyboardist, music teacher, and arranger. In addition, she is responsible for our church’s public relations’ activities with our local media.
Jim Grant is the director of our Chancel Choir, which is known throughout our community for the quality of its musical presentations. Jim is a retired music teacher, a long time member of our church family, the director of the Mainland Choral Society, and a singer with regional choirs and chorales. Jim brings a wealth of musical ability and experience to this ministry, which is evident in the beautiful and inspiring music our Chancel Choir shares with us during our Sunday morning worship services.
Jean Kibler is our church organist and Chancel Choir accompanist. Jean’s passion for music and for playing both our pipe organ and the piano are heard by our congregations every Sunday morning when she plays to honor God. From the opening prelude through the offertory and concluding with the postlude, the organ comes alive with its full voice and the piano dances with vibrant music all in praise to God.
John Stephanik is our church custodian whose love for our church is reflected in his devoted care for the building. He is responsible for the church’s physical needs, repairs, maintenance, and for setting up our church for the many special events and celebrations that we hold. In addition to his dedication to making our church ready for our energetic and expanding ministries, John sings in our Chancel Choir and Praise Ensemble. He and his wife, Pat, have blessed our congregation on many occasions with inspiring duets.
Andrew Zaplitny is our director of technology and media services. Andrew is the member of our staff who spends countless hours making sure that our sound system showcases the quality music we present for God and that our visual imaging that we incorporate into some of our worship services allows those in the congregation to experience worship through sounds and sights. Andrew is an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and currently attending York College where he also lends his audio technological expertise to the United Methodist Church serving his college community.
Dan Breidenstine is Central’s pianist at our Sunday morning 8am worship service in our Joslin Chapel. Dan is a highly talented keyboard player who is equally at home playing classical music on our pipe organ, accompanying our congregations playing hymns from the United Methodist Hymnal, playing keyboard for our Praise teams as they celebrate God’s love through ‘contemporary’ music that can really rock, or letting loose in beautiful jazz improvisations. Dan also sings with our Praise team and Chancel Choir. If it’s music, Dan can play it and sing it!
Barbara Meade serves the church as our Treasurer and Financial Secretary. It is her task to insure that a busy church like ours has our financial records in order. Barbara is the type of person who makes sure that bills are paid on time, monies deposited immediately, and that questions and issues related to finances are addressed in a way to insure that Central United Methodist Church’s viability is never in doubt. She is a watchdog who must deal with the finances impacting our significant mission projects, all of the expenses related to a large church building, multiple sources of giving including this website, and making sure that all legal paperwork related to the finances of our church is completed.
